I had a revelation last night. I was out with a large group of people that were almost entirely new to me. It was a large and diverse group from many cultures, backgrounds and approaches to life. They did have a unifying trait, but I didn’t share that unifying trait.  I was there in the role of “friend of person who’s in the group”.

Do you remember Everything2? Well I didn’t. I’d forgotten about it.

What’s E2? Well E2 is a democratic version of Wikipedia. Anyone can create a node. A node can be about anything.

There’s a lot of shit floating around on E2. Inane, rambling, pointless, weird shit. That’s part of its charm.

There’s some awesome, random, strange tangents that are fantastic. This post is about one of those things. One of those things that make me glad that amongst all this rock, there are a few glittering gold nuggets.

One of the things I find interesting about the US Elections is the way that the candidates and their partisans subvert the images of Americana and American history to their own ends. This Obama image is a classic example of that.
